밴쿠버는 바다 호수 강 등 물이 고이고 흐르는 맑은 마을도시다.오른쪽으로 록키산의 줄기가 거대한 운봉으로 연결되어 병풍처럼 이 도시를 감싸고 있고 왼쪽으로는 태평양바다가 큰호수처럼 잔잔하게 밀려들어온다. 강원도 땅만한 밴쿠버섬이 거친 태평양 파도를 막아주고 있기 때문에 하워사운드 해안은 거울처럼 맑고 고요하다.

​의 사진처럼 항구마다 물빛에 그려진 고층건물과 호수에 비친 나무가지들이 미미하게 흔들린다. 렘블란트의 그림보다 아름다운 천상의 걸작들이다. 그란빌 아일란드에서 스텐리공원에서 리치몬드 항구마켓 등 곳곳에서 물속에 어른거리는 자연과 도시건축물이 황홀한 자태로 누워있다.
